Awning & Hopper Windows
Home / Awning & Hopper Windows
Both Awning and Hopper windows are ideal for increasing light and ventilation in rooms where a full sized casement window is not desired. Both window types are often placed higher up on the walls in basements or bathrooms where light and ventilation are needed, but visibility is not desired.
Awning windows hinge at the top and open outwards from the bottom. You control the degree of the opening with a hand operated crank. When the window is open, the glass pane forms a little ‘awning’ over the opening, deterring rain or debris from entering the room.
Hopper windows hinge at the bottom and open inward from the top of the window approximately 20º. They have two positions, open and closed, and are manually operated.
Because the Awning and Hopper windows have the same thermal performance as a single casement window. They are highly energy efficient because they lock tight against their seals. If a strong wind blows against these windows, it only tightens the seal and further prevents air leaks.
